Shea Berkley

Bio:

Three-time, Golden Heart Finalist and multi-published author Shea Berkley has a fondness for characters, whether in real life or those she makes up in her head while she’s tending to a multitude of mundane tasks she’s forced to do in order to survive. Writing gives her purpose (okay it keeps her out of trouble…mostly), and she can’t imagine herself doing anything else. When not writing, Shea’s at the gym lifting weights and kickboxing which give her a much-needed jolt of endorphins to face an onslaught of fictional characters fighting for her attention.

Genres:

I mostly write YA (Young Adult) Fantasy and YA Contemporary plus general Fantasy/Paranormal.

Get to know Shea:

  1. What’s your favorite place in the entire world?

Oh the places I’ve been and the people I’ve seen… It ‘s difficult to choose just one. I love the quietness of the NW rain forest within the Cascade Mountain range, but then I also love the sound of my children’s laughter when we are all home and relaxing.

  1. Favorite movie & why?

This is a cruel question. I love, love, LOVE movies. My current favorite movie: The Greatest Showman. Hugh Jackman is ridiculously awesome. My favorite movie growing up: The Quiet Man. I’m a huge John Wayne fan. The movie I could watch again and again and again: Gladiator. It has amazing acting and the scenery is epic as is the story.

  1. If you didn’t have to sleep what would you do with the extra time?

Bake. I love baking…and eating what I bake. My mama says I’m made of sugar. I won’t argue that.

  1. What fictional place would you most like to go?

Middle Earth. Who wouldn’t love to see all those wonders?

  1. What are the small things that make your life better?

Sleep, loads of comfort food, a strong Netflix connection, and a good mascara. I’m a fairly low maintenance woman.

  1. What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

Do something nice for people who can’t return the gesture. Basically being generous without expecting anything in return. Help someone who can’t help themselves. It makes the world a better place.

  1. What do you want your epitaph to be?

She was so busy living, she had no idea she was about to die.

  1. What is the most memorable gift you ever received?

When I was a little girl, my papa gave me a Barbie doll for no reason. Totally unexpected. I loved that Barbie for no other reason than that he gave it to me.

  1. Which one of your scars has the best story behind it?

Shockingly for the klutz I am, I don’t have many scars. I do have some on my left elbow that are from an auto accident. The car rolled three times down a steep embankment, crushing the car to bits. My husband walked away with a scratch on his toe and my elbow had a few puncture wounds, but nothing serious. The whole experience was miraculous seeing as how the car was a tiny, refurbished 380Z and it was so crunched there was nothing salvageable. The police were amazed we didn’t die.

  1. Among your friends and family, what are you famous for?

My tenuous grip on sanity. It’s amazing I’m not locked up yet, but then I can run pretty fast and hide like I’m wearing a ghillie suit.
