Amanda will talk a bit about what makes a successful PR campaign and author event and can answer questions you might have about publicity or working with independent bookstores.

Amanda Sutton has been in the book publishing industry for nearly 15 years, doing some work as an editor but mostly as a literary publicist. She was an associate editor at Saxon Publishers, a phonics textbook publisher, just out of college. Then she began a nearly 10-year career in the university press world, where she was a publicist first for the University of Oklahoma Press and then for 7 years as the first publicity manager at the University of New Mexico Press. She holds a BA in professional writing and anthropology from the University of Oklahoma and an MA in professional writing from the University of New Mexico. She is a native of Oklahoma who has lived in Albuquerque for 10 years and loves New Mexico. Currently, she is the Marketing and Events Director at Bookworks, Albuquerque’s longest-established independent bookstore, and also freelances for West End Press, a 35-year-old independent press, as an editor and promoter.
